Born on March 3, 1847 Alexander Graham Bell is noted as one of the inventors of the telephone.

What would we do without one of the greatest inventions? Well, we would certainly not know of an iPhone or even texting! In honor of his birthday, here are 10 of the greatest songs that reference Bell’s invention.

  1. Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce – “Telephone”

The song start off with “hello, hello baby I called and I can’t hear a thing”  – what a better way to celebrate Bell with a struggle we all deal with, poor cellphone receptions and men rushing us. It’s hard to go clubbing and have an entire conversation.

  1. Blondie – “Call Me”

She wants to call you anytime! Blondie brought it home in the 80’s with this absolute hit. When you’re ready to share the wine or your lover’s lover’s alibi, just pick up Bell’s invention!

  1. Tommy Two Tone – “867-5309”

Arguably one of the most famous phone numbers in history. Believe it or not, a few years ago, the number was for sale on eBay. Reaching over $5,100 in bids, we can only assume that the person who won the line was Jenny.

  1. No Doubt – “Spiderwebs”

Before Gwen Stefani went solo, she sang a song that was very telephone-esque. And quite frankly, I have always wanted this on my voicemail, but I should probably act like an adult.

  1. Drake – “Hotline Bling”

This song not only became a meme and created multiple parodies, but it focused about Bell’s creation. Drake’s dancing mixed with glorious ping-pong sounding beats. What more could you want! Please, just call Drake back already.

  1. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”

Carly Rae brought it home with this fantastic hit. You could not go two feet at a bar with out someone exchanging the lyrics “here’s my number, so call me maybe.”  Why wouldn’t your call be a definite?!

  1. Maroon 5 ft. Wiz Khalifa – “Payphone”

First of all, Adam, why are you at a payphone? Please stop spending all of your change on me. Where did your cellphone go? Now that this questions are out, Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa brought it retro with this hit.

  1. Adele – “Hello”

Cry-worthy song of the year, brought to you by the powerhouse singer Adele. Can we also note that we sincerely appreciate the fact that she uses a flip phone in the video? Hello from the other side, I’m going to hang up on your by closing my phone.

  1. Jim Croce – “Operator”

You can’t have a list about phones and not have Jim Croce on the list! When Bell’s invention slowly became bigger, the use of operators was a thing. Yes, millennials, sometimes you had to call other people to get transferred to another line. Scandalous!

  1. Stevie Wonder – “I’m Just Called To Say I Love You”

We can’t leave out Stevie’s major hit that probably inspired more greeting card puns than we’d like to admit.
