Amazon Prime Day is coming up Monday and Tuesday (July 15 and 16) and Tampa police are asking Florida shoppers to think like it’s Christmas. Not so much in the sense that they want you to buy gifts for all your friends and family. It’s because in December, we were all vigilant in keeping an eye out for porch pirates. Since it’s not Christmas, porch pirates may not be on your mind when you place your order. Tampa PD tells Channel 8 they will have patrol cars going through Tampa neighborhoods… but they can’t be everywhere.

5 things you can do to avoid being a victim:

  • Require a signature at delivery
  • Have a neighbor pick up your package after it’s delivered
  • Have your package delivered where you work
  • Put up a sign warning of video surveillance, even if you don’t have it
  • Report suspicious vehicles by calling (813) 247-8000

This is also a time of year when many of us take some vacation. Tampa PD says they’ll do a house check for you.
