Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent Jeff Eakins and Sheriff Chad Chronister have a message for the middle and high school students in their county; leave your vape pens and devices at home! According to Fox 13, a PSA video will air at all the schools in the county every day warning students of the health risks and legal consequences of possessing vaping devices while at school.

The superintendent warns of possible out of school suspensions for students caught with vaping devices, and the Sheriff adds that they could face felony charges if their device contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis.

The Sheriff’s department released a statement, “The PSA will share the reality – vape pens with illegal substances can change a student’s future,”.

(Editorial comment) This is a fantastic move by the school district, compared to the 1980s and 1990s when cigarette smoking by teenagers was rampant, and for the most part, neglected by schools and police officers.
