During an exchange of tweets between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins on Sunday, the Marlins had to apologize following a Twitter attack on the Rays. They used a dead television legend as the butt of a joke; I don’t think anyone was laughing.

The Marlins’ social media team posted a video of a Ray being thrown out at the plate. That began some fun jabs between the two teams.

Then, this. “yOU’RE LITERALLY THE ANIMAL THAT KILLED STEVE IRWIN LOG OFF”

Miami’s apology came quickly in a statement.

“This was a regrettable exchange by our otherwise creative social media team. Unfortunately, in this medium, sometimes we swing and miss, and this was definitely a miss.”
