Miami, Fl – As a result of new federal laws pertaining to hemp, prosecutors in Dade County Florida will no longer prosecute cases involving minor marijuana charges.
The reason for this is that there is no crime lab in South Florida that can test cannabis for THC, the chemical in the plant that is psychoactive. Hemp has microscopic amounts of THC, and cannot be visually or microscopically distinguished from marijuana containing higher amounts of THC.
Minor marijuana offenses are misdemeanor charges for possession of 20 grams or less. The law went into effect July 1, and since then, Tallahassee’s state attorney has halted marijuana prosecutions. Read more here.
