A bill signed by the governor will raise salaries from the 26th highest in the nation to the top 5.

The bill being signed allocates $500 million to the lower-paid teachers in each school district and charter school and will raise the base salary to $47,500. Another $100 million is being put toward experienced teachers already making higher than the base. There are also bonuses in the bill for teachers in lower graded schools who do well on College Board Advanced Placement Examinations.

The bill goes into effect on July 1. Click for details.
