Investigators are still piecing together a series of events last night after a wild scene in Tampa ended with a cop being shot. A 31 year old man is behind bars after a “shooting spree” all over Tampa, according to Channel 8. One shot injured a Tampa police officer. But what’s even scarier is shots were apparently fired at or near children.
They say it all started right around 7pm near Westshore. Reports first came in that someone was firing shots from a moving vehicle. Two people were hit but both should be ok. The scarier part of this is there were two children in the car but fortunately they were not hit.
A short time after that, there were reports of a man shooting at KIDS at a park in the Egypt Lake-Leto area. None were hurt but then another report of gunfire came in at Sligh and Habana. Two in a car were hit but both survived. The chaos ensued at Dale Mabry and Lambright. A driver pulled into the CVS parking lot and called 911 after his car was shot at and his tires were flattened by bullets.
Tampa police arrested Cruz Ortiz after he ducked into an apartment complex. But before they got him in custody, they say he shot one officer in the arm. Tampa PD Chief Dugan says that officer is doing ok at Tampa General Hospital. Injuries were not life threatening.
