Scientists at Mote Marine Laboratory are testing using clay to stop the red tide from happening at our shores. They say as the clay particles sink they combine with red tide cells that bury them in the sediment on the seafloor. It could be years before this is used (if it works), as regulations would have to be changed and much testing would still need to be done. Mote scientists are working and testing the clay in Sarasota.
