Shriner was not expecting to have this piece of breaking news drop on his plate today as they brought into a courtroom, Nicholas Cruz. Cruz was the shooter from the incident in 2019 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Cruz was able to kill 17 and wound 17 more. He was able to escape initial capture by blending in with other students but was later identified by another student. Cruz was charged with 17 premeditated murder charges and 17coutns of attempted murder. There was no motive given.

Cruz however today was not in court for the shooting but for his alleged assault on a jail guard. In November of 2018 Cruz managed to rush a guard and wrestle him to the ground. This is being tried separately from his 34 other counts. Listening to it live on air Shriner found out that Prosecutors were looking to gain Cruz’s medical records as they believe the Guard that was assaulted by Beltran was mistreating him.

Cruz was making his first in-person court appearance since before the pandemic, sat quietly in an orange jumpsuit and shackles during the 30-minute hearing over battery and assault charges stemming from the Nov. 13, 2018, altercation at the main Broward County jail.
