Brittany Duquaine is a first-grade teacher here in Pinellas County, and she recently got a shout-out from Governor Ron Desantis in his State of the State Address. Over at Lakewood Elementary School in St. Petersburg, Ms. Duqaine can be found tirelessly working to make sure her students get the best education possible. Working with other teachers, they managed to enrich students’ lives and increase the school’s overall score from an F to an A. This right here was drawn the attention of Governor Ron Desantis.

Speaking to the state recently, Gov. Desantis talked about this major accomplishment, not only about her success but the school as a whole. “It was definitely an honor, and I’m definitely proud,” said Ms. Duquaine. This isn’t only the only time she has been met with good words from the Governor. She recently met with him when he came down to hand out the $1000 checks to all Florida educators. She used that money to help further her education.

Ms. Duquaine says she can support her students because she feels supported as their teacher.

“I was telling my principal, I had kids who didn’t know how to read, and now they’re reading at a third-grade level, and I taught them that. It’s a great feeling to see them and know they’re going to do well because they have a good foundation,” said Duquaine.
