Talking with most cyber-security experts about account information it’s not if they will get your information, it’s about when. This means at some point when you’re highly secure special password of “Password1” is guessed your information will be out. The only thing you can do is attempt to make it take longer to guess. But that is not the point of this article. Recently in the last few months, we have seen a rise in apps specifically on the Google Play store that are trojan viruses. A trojan virus is one that looks safe but hides malicious malware.
One of the most recent ones is one called SharkBot. It’s a very unique app and it’s dangerous to users’ information. SharkBot is an Automatic Transfer System (ATS) that is new to even android users. This lets hackers move money automatically without any human interaction. British-IT departments have found it but unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, it is still on the Google store. The app has managed to pass the Google Plays stores safety checks so be careful around it.
According to NCC, SharkBot can perform an “overlay attack” the moment it detects an active banking app. It throws up a screen that looks like the bank in question, ready for you to feed it your login credentials. The program also activates a keylogger that sends whatever you type to the attacker’s servers — and it doesn’t just intercept SMS messages but can hide them, too.
Don’t download “Antivirus, Super Cleaner” from the Play Store, delete it immediately and consider the possibility you may need to fully wipe your phone. This is one shark you won’t see coming thanks to a dorsal fin sticking out of the water. [Source Android Police]
