LA JOYA, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 17: Migrants sit against a fence while waiting to board a border patrol bus after crossing the Rio Grande into the U.S. on November 17, 2021 in La Joya, Texas. The number of migrants taken into U.S. custody along the southern border decreased for a third consecutive month in October. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded more than 164,000 migrant apprehensions in October. Approximately 55% of migrants encountered were expelled back to Mexico, or their homelands. U.S. President Joe Biden is set to have a meeting this Thursday with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau where they will discuss the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, immigration and economic growth.

It may be a last-minute ditch effort to save their polls, but more and more Democrats are pushing against Biden’s plan to end Title 42 Order. The goal from the administration is to end protections next month which many experts on both sides are now warning could be detrimental to the nation’s health, siting Covid 19 infections rising. In addition, many of the democrats that are expected to lose are now standing up for the border crisis. This includes allies of the President, including Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Gary Peters (D-Mich.).

Monday, Democratic aides suggested they stay with the order set in place by the CDC. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but there’s a lot of lobbying,” said a senior Senate Democratic aide who also suggested they wait till after the election. According to a poll from Politico, 56% of all registered voters strongly oppose lifting the ban, leading many Democrats to switch their stance on the border problem to secure any last-minute votes for the suspected Red Wave.
