We are always told to buckle up but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. According to FL State troopers, seat belt use is declining in Florida.

Law enforcement around the state as well as the country does “Click It Or Ticket” campaigns usually around holiday weekends, like Memorial Day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the national seat belt use rate was at 90.4% last year. In Florida, however, troopers have noticed seat belt wearing is declining. “We’re seeing a lot of fatal crashes where people are being ejected and they were not belted,” said Lt. Kim Montes. “It’s not just young kids or old people. It’s all across the board.

Statistics show that wearing a seat belt saves lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, data shows car crashes are a leading cause of death for infants to 54-year-olds. It doesn’t take much to put a seat belt on and increase your chances of surviving a crash.
