There is a lot of controversy surrounding the detainment of WNBA player Brittney Griner in Russia. Some Americans believe she was detained illegally and some believe otherwise. Currently, the Biden Administration has been working to cut a deal with Russia to have her released but the cost may come as no surprise to Americans.
Reversing its previous policy to not speak with Russia the Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has reached out to the Kremlin with a serious offer for the return of Griner. Sources familiar with the matter have spoken that the US plans to offer convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout for Griner and another jailed American Paul Whelan.
Reports are unclear whether or not this will be enough to secure the release of Griner and Whelan. The Biden Administration facing pressure from all around has seen this issue rise to the top and maybe the win they need after many defeats. [Source ESPN]
