Tampa Bay Today With Shriner

Everyone's in line trying to get their tickets for the $1.5 Billion Powerball but did you know Floridians are more likely to be attacked by a gator than win the Powerball!

I got a cousin whose been bit twice by a gator so he may need to get a ticket because Floridians are more likely to get attacked by a Gator than win the lottery. With the Powerball now over $1.5 billion, yeah you read that right, it is time to start thinking about retirement. According to the Florida Lottery Officials after the draw they doubled the pot. The winning numbers were 2, 11, 22, 35, 60, and a Powerball of 23.

Now since 2015 they made the odds even tougher to win. Lottery Officials added more number combinations which further decreased the amount you were likely to win. 1 in 292,201,338 are your chances of winning the Powerball. So yes, we are telling you there is a chance. But here is the bad news you are more likely to be attacked by a gator than win. The odds according to Florida Fish and Wildlife say you have a 1 in 3.1 million of being attacked by a gator.

Grim Fates More Likely to Happen Than Win the Powerball

Other odds are out there and according to the University of Florida you have:

  • 1 in 4.3 million chances of being killed by a shark
  • 1 in 340,733 chances of dyeing by Fireworks
  • 4.1 per 1,000 Americans will be audited by the IRS
  • 1 in 156,169 of dyeing in a Train Crash
  • 1 in 6045 of dyeing of excessive cold
  • 1 in 5,051 of dyeing in Air or Space

Thats right Floridians are more likely to be attacked by a gator than win the Powerball as well as all of those untimely accidents as well. So, if any of these have happened to someone you know get them to pick your tickets next time you go to the gas station. [Source WFLA]
