It’s a big deal. She’s a regular on the cable TV show Carnival Eats but her fair food masterpieces have been featured on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, and The Travel Channel. Every year “Mama Jane” Harris creates something new for the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City and this year, it sounds like she’s got another winner. Several years back, she created my favorite fair food of all time: Funnel Bacon on a Stick.
While she likes to create a dessert with fresh Plant City strawberries, this year she’s got something way different. She’s taking the hungry to Hungary. Mama is famous for her funnel cakes and elephant ears. This ear is quite unique. It’s called the Langos Ear. It’s made with a garlic butter elephant ear batter. Mama tops it with a homemade cream cheese and sour cream blend, and then sprinkles bacon crumbles on top.
Mama’s grandson has a teacher who suggested she do a Hungarian fry bread. She says there was no trial and error with this one. The first time she made it, it came out beautifully. Mama Jane’s toppings are not the traditional ones Hungarians would go with but cheese and bacon is the ‘Murica twist that I think will make this one a must for me. Mama’s truck is located on the north side of the Entenmann’s Strawberry Tent.
